E-Training Course on Counterfeit Drugs Now Available

csip_slide_instituteofresearchThe counterfeiting of medicines is a dangerous threat to public health. To educate medical professionals and consumers, the IRACM (International Institute of Research against Counterfeit Medicine), a Fight the Fakes member, launched an interactive e-course on the dangers of falsified medicinal products.

This training course offers participants a wealth of information to help them better understand the various issues and challenges of counterfeit drugs online. Takeaways include how drugs are manufactured and marketed, global legislation and law enforcement, and how to identify illegal online pharmacies and fake packaging. The e-course is divided into the following modules that address these aspects of falsified medicinal products:

  • Medicinal products: from the molecule to the finished product
  • The marketing of medicinal products
  • Anti-counterfeiting legislation
  • Anti-counterfeiting action
  • Counterfeiting worldwide
  • The internet problem
  • Technical solutions in the fight against counterfeit drugs

The program is intended for a wide audience, is free, and is available in French, English, and Spanish. The platform guides users through a 45-minute program, or users can navigate the course themselves by choosing from the various topics in the menu. According to IRACM, the course was created “to reach out to as many people as possible, to create ambassadors in the fight against this scourge.”

At CSIP, we join our partner, Fight the Fakes, in efforts to provide detailed information about educational resources for consumers, medical professionals, and stakeholders whenever we find worthwhile links, such as this e-learning course. We applaud IRACM in creating this course, and hope that the knowledge it provides will inform consumers on the background and dangers of rogue online pharmacies and counterfeit drugs. In addition to the e-learning course, we urge participants to access our educational resources and links, which are designed to educate consumers, the medical community, and other interested persons about the growing number of issues related to counterfeit drugs sold online and on illicit online pharmacies.
