UPS joins the Center for Safe Internet Pharmacies to Combat Illegal Online Pharmacies

WASHINGTON – July 30, 2013 – In response to the growing threat of illegal online pharmacies, UPS has joined the Center for Safe Internet Pharmacies as a strategic partner and board member. UPS will be the first global package delivery organization to be participating on the board and signals a growing number of companies that recognize the power of corporations in keeping the Internet a safe purchasing space.

“We are thrilled to have UPS join our board of directors and look forward to working together in our effort to protect consumers against rogue online pharmacies,” said Marjorie Clifton, CSIP Executive Director. “The participation of shippers represents an important addition to our membership, which currently includes search engine advertisers, social media, registries and registrars and payment processors. With UPS on the board, our members now represent all areas of the online sales and delivery ecosystem.  Together we aim to set a global precedent and call on other companies, similar to our membership to take action.  Solving this problem will require global participation and dedication.”

CSIP is a non-profit organization comprised of corporations that play a vital role in the online ecosystem. The board of directors includes executives from American Express, Discover, Visa, MasterCard, eNom, GoDaddy, Google, Microsoft, Neustar, PayPal, Facebook and Yahoo! In addition to protecting consumers, the group also works to address threats to national security and consumer trust created by criminal networks that may sponsor malware.
